Meet and Confer Nominations

From Ryan Most
Hello Administrators,

Following Dr. Lane???s announcement regarding the Meet and Confer representation, I felt it important that we did not waste time identifying our representatives. Over the course of the past two months, I have been able to speak with many individuals and small groups regarding how we might rejuvenate KCKASA, and this seems like the perfect opportunity to breathe life back into our representative body. I suggest that the representatives end up fulfilling the role of president and vice president of our association as that is the task they will be faced with any way regarding collecting and sharing our input as administrators.

I am including a link to a google form where we may nominate colleagues we feel would be strong voices to represent us. I will share the nomination results with everyone regularly. On Friday, April following 12pm, the 2 candidates with the most nominations for secondary and the 2 candidates with the most nominations for elementary will be put on another google form/ballot to determine our final selections. (It was my understanding that central office employees including administrators have their own group. If this was a misunderstanding, speak up so we can adjust.)

Be sure to talk to those you nominate and spread the word to others why you feel they would be strong voices to represent us. We will close the final voting on April 15th at noon. Throughout the process I will share the google form results with everyone. Would we like to have a come together in person meeting/opportunity? Time? Place?

I am throwing this out there to get the conversation started and structure in place. If someone has an alternative that would be more effective, then that would be great to share out.

Thank you everyone.

Use the space below to nominate administrators you believe would make effective representative voices for us.

I’ve invited you to fill out the form Meet & Confer Representation NOMINATION FORM. To fill it out, visit:

Meet and Confer Process

From Dr. Cynthia Lane
Dear Staff,
On March 8, 2016, the Board of Education approved our recommendation to rescind participation in the Public Employer-Employee Relations Act and authorized me to establish a “Meet and Confer” process with all employee groups not represented by the Teacher’s Bargaining Unit. It is important that we form our group and begin the process this spring.
I would like for each employee group to select their own representatives to be part of the Meet and Confer Team. Representatives must commit to attend all meetings, discuss topics, communicate and gather information. The team will assist in framing recommendations or considerations designed to shape my decision making and recommendations to the board.
Prior to our initial meeting, each group is asked to identify two representatives, and at least one alternate that will serve on the Meet and Confer Team. Names of the selected individuals are to be submitted to Susan Westfahl by Wednesday, April 20.
We have attempted to find a balance in the total number ofrepresentatives, while maintaining a committee size that can be productive. To get the process started, the represented groups are as follows:

  • Administrators
  • Classroom Aides, Translators, ISS Monitors
  • Central Office (not represented by secretaries group)
  • Custodians
  • *KCKPS Law Enforcement Officers
  • Maintenance (Shop)
  • Nutritional Services
  • *Paraprofessionals
  • Parent Liaisons
  • *Transportation (drivers and aides)
  • *Secretaries

Our initial meeting will be at 4:30 on Monday, April 25, 2016 at the Central Office and Training Center, room 333. Our agenda will include determining frequency, date and time for meetings, reviewing purpose, submitting items for the agenda, and discussion of duties and responsibilities of representatives.
Sincerely,
Dr. Cynthia Lane
