District Welcome Center

From Kristen Scott
Dear Administrators,

I am pleased to announce the development of a Welcome Center at KCKPS. The Welcome Center will be used to enroll first-time students to the school district in grades kindergarten to 12th grade. It will be located in the Central Office and Training Center, 2010 N. 59th Street, and will open in March, 2018. The hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

???This is a great opportunity for the school district to familiarize parents and students with the great opportunities available at KCKPS in a one-stop-shop setting,??? said Dr. Cynthia Lane, superintendent of schools.

Along with school enrollment, parents and guardians of first-time students to the district will be able to complete lunch applications and special dietary forms, learn about school bus transportation and drop off immunization forms and other documentation at the Welcome Center. There will also be information about the district???s vision and the Diploma+ initiative provided to families.

Staff will be present to assist with translation.

The Welcome Center will NOT replace online re-enrollment for students returning to the school district.

The Winter edition of the Education Connection contained an article about the Welcome Center to help inform the community. In the coming weeks, there will be more information about the Welcome Center. In the meantime, please make sure your staff is aware of this important change for enrollment of first-time students to the district.

Thank you for your assistance.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions at Kristen.scott@kckps.org.

10 a.m. I January 25 I JCCC I Carlsen Center, Yardley Hall

Freedom Riders
This new play, with original songs and music, explores the valiant and courageous personalities behind one of the most critical chapters in the history of the Civil Rights movement.

Set in 1961, fifteen years after the United States Supreme Court had outlawed segregation, bus lines and cities throughout the South still enforced a rigid system of separating black and white citizens. The Freedom Riders, black and white Americans, from the North and South, decided to travel together on buses that crossed state lines despite the hateful segregation and racism that had a strong hold in so many parts of the United States. The unforgettable heroes, and the facts behind the events portrayed in Freedom Riders, are essential to a full understanding of the Civil Rights era and American history.

Show length: 60 minutes
