Reminder About Last Year’s Changes to Checking for Completion of Elementary Grades

From Alan King
In previous years, elementary buildings were instructed to check grades to ensure that all domains of the report card have been addressed at least once within the school year. With the change of the elementary grading scale, we lost the cumulative property of our grading system. The cumulative property meant that all of the previous grades were calculated into the current grade. This made it easy in the 4th quarter for buildings to identify any domains that had not been assessed in particular areas.

Unfortunately, when we switched last year to the new scale, we were forced to abandon cumulative grading, causing us to lose the ability to see those gaps. There is not a report that clearly identifies across the year whether or not a standard has been assessed. As a result, buildings will NOT be expected to check for this.

If buildings want someone to look over the grades before teachers check out, they can do so at their own discretion.

This is the same item that appeared in the Administrators’ Notice in May 26, 2017.

Important Information on Re-Enrollment for SY2018-2019

From Lisa Garcia-Stewart
Re-enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year is now open and will run through the end of May. All parents should receive an initial letter in the mail by Monday, May 14th that will provide information needed to create a parent portal account in Infinite Campus and complete re-enrollment through the online registration tool. There are staff members in each school that have been trained to support parents with completing re-enrollment online and parents should contact their child???s school for assistance.

Parents that receive multiple letters and parents that do not receive a letter from the initial mailing are also being asked to contact their child???s school for assistance. If they receive multiple letters that means there are duplicate profiles in our system and if they don???t receive a letter it means their address is not correct in our system. In either of those cases, they need to contact the school to get the issue corrected and then obtain the information they need to create their parent portal account.

We have created a generic letter (attached) as a follow-up for parents that may not have received the initial letter because their address is incorrect in our system. We don???t want to send these through the mail because our intended audience are parents that didn???t receive the initial letter. Each school will receive enough letters to send home for all currently enrolled students in grades K-11 and they will be delivered to each building through inter-office mail.

Please do not refer parents to Student Services or the Welcome Center for assistance with re-enrollment; all parents should be contacting their child???s school with any questions or issues. The school level support will elevate any issues they are unable to resolve to the appropriate district level person for assistance. Please note that the Welcome Center is only for families of students in grades 1-12 that are brand new to the district or have left the district and are now returning.

If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact Lisa Garcia-Stewart in Student Services. Thank you very much!!!!!
