Clarification of Enrollment Options for SY2018-2019

From Lisa Garcia-Stewart
The purpose of this message is to clarify the various enrollment options for next school year for both currently enrolled students and students that will be new to the district. The re-enrollment information that was recently provided only applies to students currently enrolled in the district in grades Kindergarten through 11 that will be returning to the district next school year.

Please note that Early Childhood, incoming kindergarten, Sumner Academy, alternative sites and students new to the district do not use re-enrollment. Please see below for the process that applies for each of these situations. Much of this information can also be found on the district webpage for enrollment at??http://www.kckps.org/index.php/enrollment-information??.

First Time Pre-K Enrollment – All students that will be enrolling in early childhood for the first time must schedule an appointment through the Early Childhood department. Appointments can be made for any day the district office is open this summer by calling 913-627-5257. Additional information can be found at??http://staff.kckps.org/secretgarden/index.php/preschool-department??.

Returning Pre-K Enrollment – All students that will be returning for early childhood must schedule an appointment through the Early Childhood department. Appointments can be made for any day the district office is open this summer by calling 913-627-5257. Additional information can be found at??http://staff.kckps.org/secretgarden/index.php/preschool-department??.

Incoming Kindergarten Students – All incoming kindergarten students enroll at the school as part of Kindergarten Roundup regardless of whether they are brand new to the district or they previously attended pre-K in the district. Additional information regarding Kindergarten Roundup can be found at??http://kckps.org/index.php/kindergarten-roundup??.

Brand New Students and Students Returning to the District After Attending Elsewhere (Incoming Grades 1-12 for 2018-2019) – Any student that is brand new to the district or has previously attended and is now returning after attending another district will enroll for 2018-2019 through Centralized Enrollment unless they are entering kindergarten (*see Kindergarten Roundup). The dates for Centralized Enrollment will be 7/31 (10:00 am-7:00 pm), 8/1 (8:30 am-4:00 pm), 8/2 (10:00 am-7:00 pm) and 8/3 (8:30-2:30) and will occur at Central Office (2010 N. 59th St, KCKS 66104). Additional information about Centralized Enrollment can be found at??http://www.kckps.org/index.php/centralized-enrollment??.

Sumner Academy – Sumner admission is by application only. The application window is traditionally in late fall and early winter. Please note that the application window for Sumner is closed for the 2018-2019 school year. Additional information on Sumner admissions can be found at??http://www.kckps.org/index.php/sumner-admissions??.

Alternative Schools – In the majority of cases, students are referred to the alternative program by a district school. However, Student Services accepts appointments for students not currently enrolled that are interested in any of the alternative pathways. Additional information on the alternative pathways can be found at??http://staff.kckps.org/secretgarden/index.php/alternative-education-pathways??.

If you have any questions about enrollment options, please contact Student Services at 913-551-3200. Thank you very much!!!!!

Important Information on Re-Enrollment for SY2018-2019

From Lisa Garcia-Stewart
Re-enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year is now open and will run through the end of May. All parents should receive an initial letter in the mail by Monday, May 14th that will provide information needed to create a parent portal account in Infinite Campus and complete re-enrollment through the online registration tool. There are staff members in each school that have been trained to support parents with completing re-enrollment online and parents should contact their child???s school for assistance.

Parents that receive multiple letters and parents that do not receive a letter from the initial mailing are also being asked to contact their child???s school for assistance. If they receive multiple letters that means there are duplicate profiles in our system and if they don???t receive a letter it means their address is not correct in our system. In either of those cases, they need to contact the school to get the issue corrected and then obtain the information they need to create their parent portal account.

We have created a generic letter (attached) as a follow-up for parents that may not have received the initial letter because their address is incorrect in our system. We don???t want to send these through the mail because our intended audience are parents that didn???t receive the initial letter. Each school will receive enough letters to send home for all currently enrolled students in grades K-11 and they will be delivered to each building through inter-office mail.

Please do not refer parents to Student Services or the Welcome Center for assistance with re-enrollment; all parents should be contacting their child???s school with any questions or issues. The school level support will elevate any issues they are unable to resolve to the appropriate district level person for assistance. Please note that the Welcome Center is only for families of students in grades 1-12 that are brand new to the district or have left the district and are now returning.

If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact Lisa Garcia-Stewart in Student Services. Thank you very much!!!!!

Notice to High School Principals ??? Graduation Photography

From Mike Keener
The KCKPS Communications Team will be taking photos of various scenes at the 2018 graduation ceremonies. Our team, however, will not be available to take photos of individual graduates as they receive their diplomas. We wanted to let you know this so that you will be able to make arrangements for someone to provide this service at your respective ceremonies. Please let us know if you have questions.
