District Welcome Center

From Kristen Scott
Dear Administrators,

I am pleased to announce the development of a Welcome Center at KCKPS. The Welcome Center will be used to enroll first-time students to the school district in grades kindergarten to 12th grade. It will be located in the Central Office and Training Center, 2010 N. 59th Street, and will open in March, 2018. The hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

???This is a great opportunity for the school district to familiarize parents and students with the great opportunities available at KCKPS in a one-stop-shop setting,??? said Dr. Cynthia Lane, superintendent of schools.

Along with school enrollment, parents and guardians of first-time students to the district will be able to complete lunch applications and special dietary forms, learn about school bus transportation and drop off immunization forms and other documentation at the Welcome Center. There will also be information about the district???s vision and the Diploma+ initiative provided to families.

Staff will be present to assist with translation.

The Welcome Center will NOT replace online re-enrollment for students returning to the school district.

The Winter edition of the Education Connection contained an article about the Welcome Center to help inform the community. In the coming weeks, there will be more information about the Welcome Center. In the meantime, please make sure your staff is aware of this important change for enrollment of first-time students to the district.

Thank you for your assistance.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions at Kristen.scott@kckps.org.

As we begin the new semester, I want to encourage us to lift up our students and staff in celebration of their achievements, efforts and character. Please consider nominating these outstanding individuals to the Board of Education’s recognition programs: “Student of the Month” and ???Employee of the Month.” We have amazing students and employees to celebrate. I look forward to reading the powerful stories that you include in the nominations and to meeting the families and friends of students and employees.

K-ELPA2 is Coming!

From David Rand and Kristen Scott
The K-ELPA2 window will open on February 1st. In preparation we will be training your ESL staff: EC5 ESL staff will be pulled on January 10th from 2:00 to 4:00 here at the Central Office; and Secondary staff will receive their training on January 17th during district PL.

NOTE: If your K-ELPA2 building test coordinator is going to be someone other than an ESL staff member, please send them to the appropriate training session noted above.

We are also requesting that you designate someone as your K-ELPA2 building test coordinator. This individual can be one of your ESL staff members, or anyone else that you feel can manage this responsibility. This individual will be the point of contact for David Rand in DERA and the ESL department for communication purposes as well as handling tasks within the testing system. Please email David Rand and Kristen Scott the name of your building test coordinator by next Thursday, January 11th.

More information will be shared in the future.
