Negotiations- Certified Bargaining Unit

The bargaining teams have reached a tentative agreement. Voting on ratification is open this week. We have to have at least 50% of the certified bargaining unit voting for the vote to be considered valid. If we do not have enough votes by Friday, we will extend the voting window. All members of the certified bargaining unit should have a summary of the proposed changes in their email & a link to vote. They can reach out to myself at NEA.KCK@gmail.com if they did not receive either. Questions may be directed to your Building Rep, any member of the bargaining team, or myself.
The Jedel Excellence in Mathematics Education Awards

The Jedel Excellence in Mathematics Education Awards are bestowed to recognize exemplary K-12 math teaching. Established by the Jedel Family Foundation in 2018, the awards recognize 21 outstanding mathematics teachers in the Greater Kansas City area. The awards recognize those that implement innovative instructional practices and strategies to strengthen student understanding of mathematics. Awardees serve as leaders for their schools and ambassadors of mathematics for their community.
Awards are given to K-12 classroom mathematics teachers who teach in charter, private, and public schools within these eight counties: Platte, Clay, Jackson, and Cass counties in Missouri and in Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson, and Douglas counties in Kansas. Award Winners receive $10,000 and Award Finalists receive $1,000 – $5,000.

The school district has made a decision to allow limited access to social media systemwide. This change will NOT impact YouTube and will become effective on Thursday, November 1.

The Benefits Department needs your help! There has been a lot of communication around open enrollment for benefits over the last few weeks, but 37% of our colleagues still have not enrolled in benefits for 2019. We don???t want to see a single member of the KCKPS family without the coverage that they need. Please help us get the word out to all staff members in your building or department.
We are aware that some employees may be waiting to compare plans when the ACA Marketplace opens. We encourage everyone to research all of their options thoroughly, but want to ensure all employees understand that no exceptions can be made to the enrollment deadline of November 6, 2018.
