American Education Week- Next Week

From Melissa Fears
Good Afternoon Staff,

The week of November 12-16, 2018 is American Education Week (history). Each year, during this week, we take the opportunity to share messages about the importance of education with our community, highlighting the many different actors who contribute to strong public schools. The NEA has developed a list of suggested activities, and we invite staff and sites to participate in any or all of the activities listed below.

Monday: Kick-off event
Tuesday: Recognize your parents
Wednesday: Recognize your Education Support Professionals
Thursday: Invite members of the community (or Central Office staff) to be an “Educator for a Day”
Friday: Recognize your substitutes

Additional fliers and activities that you might find useful can be found at http://www.nea.org/grants/19823.htm. As you participate in American Education Week activities, please let Jen Holt and Melissa Bedford Fears know what you’re doing, so we can share some of them on our social media channels. As you share on your channels, please use any or all of the following hashtags: #WeAreKCKPS, #AmericanEducationWeek, #AEW2018. In addition, if you have special guests in your building for Educator for A Day, please send pictures!

Sincerely,

Dr. Charles Foust

The following flowchart outlines the FMLA process from an Administrator’s perspective. Employees will be notified of this direction during the FMLA communication process. Please direct any employee attempting to provide a release to HR.

Impact 360 – November Issue

From Sean DeMaree
Attached is the newest edition of Impact 360! This month???s edition is centered on the idea of creating a caring community. While bully-awareness month has officially ended, I encourage all of you to continue the work of creating a community that is not only bully-free, but also promotes the growth of students connectedness and relationships.

Starting in December, Impact 360 will begin to highlight one counselor and one teacher as Impact Leaders. If you have a counselor or a teacher who are creating a social-emotional impact in your building, send a short summary of their work to sean.demaree@kckps.org, and they may end up in the next edition of Impact 360!
