Incident Command Systems (ICS) for Schools
from Henry R. Horn
In spite of our best efforts and preparation, school personnel may need to serve as first responders for an array of emergency incidents.
School personnel are likely to be the first on the scene when an incident occurs on school property or involves school staff or students. Eventually police, fire, emergency medical services or another external agency will manage response to the incident. However, the first response will likely be by school employees. They will act as a bridge, conducting initial response activities until first-responders such as police, fire and emergency medical services can arrive. School employees can manage these initial response activities for an incident more effectively by establishing incident command.
ICS can also be utilized as an effective management structure for pre-planned, non-emergency events such as a football game or a school graduation.

Kindergarten Readiness Assessment
from David Rand
Greetings,
The window for the fall Kindergarten Readiness Assessment is now open and runs through Friday, September 6th; scores will be due via an excel spreadsheet by Friday, September 13th. You will receive the collection spreadsheet from Samantha Bradshaw via e-mail. Please see the attached administration guide for the assessment, which is required for all incoming kindergarten students. A student is considered ‘kindergarten ready’ if they are scored as a ‘yes’ on at least 20 of the 23 indicators measured. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please contact David Rand in DERA (david.rand@kckps.org). Thank you very much!!!!!!
Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ)
from David Rand
Greetings,
The window for the ASQ is currently open and will close on September 20th. Last year Tom Sowers and Tracy Smith supported ASQ, but they are both now in new roles. As a result, support for ASQ will be a collaborative effort between DERA and the IIOs.
Your students from last year have been archived and your new students were uploaded prior to the first day of school. We will do another upload of current enrollments by the end of the week; after that, each school will be responsible for adding new students to the system.
All staff members coordinating ASQ at their building will need to review the documents at the following linked page, which has detailed information regarding training and preparation for administration.

Additional information regarding ASQ can also be found at the following link.

In addition, the state is providing a webinar on Friday, August 16th at 11:00 that will include support personnel from ASQ. You will be able to access the webinar by going to the following link.

If you have any questions regarding training for staff, logistics of planning or scheduling interpreters, please reach out to your IIO for support. If you have any questions regarding the ASQ website, updating program administrators on the website or adding student accounts, please contact Benjamin Price in DERA (benjamin.price@kckps.org). Thank you very much!!!!!
