2018 Graduation

The following recommendations for commencement are suggested for use this year:

  1. Principals and teachers are urged to keep the seniors on a full schedule through their last required day of attendance (May 16th , 2018)
  2. The names of all possible graduates must be sent to the office of Student Services on or before Wednesday, February 14th, 2018.
  3. If, after February 14th, omissions are discovered or additions must be made for any reason, please send the names to Student Services. There will be no calls for a second list of names. The first list should include all possible graduates for this year.
  4. On 8 ?? x11 paper make at least three copies of the graduation list. The ORIGINAL and a copy are to be sent to the office of Student Services. Please keep a copy in your files. Diploma lists should be numbered and typed in upper and lower case letters, two columns on the page, double spaced, with names exactly as they are to appear on the diploma. Graduation list is be emailed to Mrs. Matthia Kelsey. A diploma is a legal document, Check for accuracy of spelling of the student???s complete name on the list because the original will be sent to the diploma company for printing the graduates??? names. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU DOUBLE CHECK THE SPELLING OF ALL OF THE NAMES BECAUSE REPRINTS WILL BE BILLED TO YOUR BUILDING.
  5. A copy of graduation program must be sent to the office of Student Services no later than Wednesday, March 21st, 2018. That is the third school day after spring break.
    a. Verify all names, student and staff
    b. Verify spelling of all names
    c. Mark honor students
  6. On March 21st, 2018, I will also need ticket numbers for your school and ticket colors that will be chosen for each school. I will send the order in that day so please be prompt.

The printer will receive the programs on March 21st, 2018 by end of business day. It will take approximately two weeks after that to do the initial setup. He will return it to this office for proofing. Any changes made at that time will be the final changes.

As you know, one of our many goals in serving our students is to secure the best and the brightest new teacher hires for the coming school year!?? With this in mind, we know that there is a robust pool of student teachers this year that we would like to screen and hire for positions for the coming school year. Now that you have had the opportunity to see them student teach, we would like your feedback on your initial perception of the student teachers that you have placed in your school this year.?? Remember, your student teacher may be considered for your building or for any other vacancy in the district. Please share with me the names of your student teachers, the grade level or content area they are assigned to, and indicate which ones you would hire today if you had the opportunity to secure them.

In fairness, we want to encourage all of our student teachers to fill out an application for consideration.?? Please reach out to all of your student teachers and encourage them to apply in the coming days with KCKPS, if they haven???t done so already, by visiting the ???KCKPS Student Teachers and Student Certified Staff??? application from our employment website??https://kckps.tedk12.com/hire/ViewJob.aspx?JobID=4452.?? Please let them know that we are looking at moving quickly on our potential student teacher hires and that they must have an application on file before we can interview and/or select candidate for hire.

Please share with your certified staff that the 2018-19 Teacher Transfer Window will be open from March 19, 2018 – March 30, 2018. To qualify for a transfer, a teacher must have completed 3 years of service in KCK by the close of the 2017-18 school year. Applications will be collected on the district employment application website, just as they were last year, and employees must have their accounts marked as internal to see the postings. Please note that more details will follow via email to the teachers and administrators directly as we get closer to that timeframe.

The deadline for Star Teachers to have their packet submitted to me is almost here. With this in mind, I am requesting your assistance in giving a gentle reminder to your building’s nominee that they need to have all items in their packet submitted to me by the Thursday, February 8, 2018, deadline. Just in case you field any questions pertaining to the packet requirements or have a teacher ask you what specifically needs to be emailed back to me, I have included an at-a-glance list below of what needs to be included in the packet submitted to me by the deadline. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Packet Requirements

  1. Essay Requirement: Philosophy of Teacher (two double-spaced pages)
  2. A recommendation letter from a principal, Instructional coach or colleague who can speak to the nominee???s instructional ability, classroom practices and how they positively impact student learning in achieving our mission of becoming one of the top 10 school districts in the nation.
  3. Their completed nomination form filled out and signed by the nominee.

Snow Day CIS Entry

186 day Classified employees who utilize the Clock In System (CIS) to record time, currently have an entry for the snow day observed on January 16, 2018. The paid day accurately reflects the total number of hours worked by the employee???s specific position. Any timecards which have not been approved by the employee or Administrator should now be approved.
