Capstone Project Opportunity: The Global Student Fair
From EC-5 Executive Directors
We have been made aware of an exciting opportunity for Kansas City-area students in grades 2-5 to learn about the diversity of their community, experience a wide range of cultures and perspectives, and develop global awareness and cultural competence through new experiences.
People to People International, a nearly 60-year-old international nonprofit organization based in Kansas City, is preparing Kansas City???s first Global Student Fair, to be held Wednesday, April 13, 2016, from 9 a.m. to noon at Union Station. The event will bring together internationally oriented businesses and organizations, cultural and ethnic groups, universities and academic programs, artists, and museums to showcase for elementary and students from around the KC metro just how international Kansas City is. The Global Student Fair supports a variety of instructional standards and offers a unique experience the classroom alone cannot provide.
We would like to encourage your school to participate in this event as part of the 5th grade Capstone project. The organization has worked to make it entirely cost-free for students. To that end, they are offering a transportation reimbursement of up to $200/school.
More information and registration are available online at http://bit.ly/1lUfmoJ through February 1. Due to anticipated interest and space limitations, registrations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis and may close before February 1. Early registration is encouraged.
ELPA21 Change of Training Date for ESL Staff
From Kristen Scott
Administrators,
The state has changed the window of the ELPA21 assessment for ESL students. The window is now February 22-April 1.
Therefore, we have had to change our training sessions for ESL staff.
We will now train ESL staff the afternoon of February 3rd. Secondary ESL staff will be trained from 12:30 to 2:00; and Elementary ESL staff from 2:30 to 4:00.
Secondary administrators, we know that this poses an issue around dismissal and such; we ask that you please work something out with your staff so we can begin that session at 12:30. If this does pose a hardship, please contact Kristen Scott through email.
