KSDE Data Quality Certification Survey

Please complete this survey by December 3rd.

I’m emailing you regarding the KSDE Data Quality Certification (DQC). This certification is aimed at the data coordinators, accountability staff, and administrators that work with the state’s web-based applications (i.e., KansasCAN, see list of applications below) and their related reports. The state is making DQC a KESA requirement for any district staff who handle (collects, reports, signs-off) student data submitted to any KSDE applications.

Certification lasts one year and needs to be renewed annually. Our district has until May 2022 to complete the 7-hour (9am-4pm) training. The training will be hosted here on-site and offered by KSDE staff.

2nd Quarter Reminders – Bullying/Harassment Reporting Structures

Please put on your 2nd quarter meeting agendas a review of the bullying and harassment policies and reporting requirements with ALL staff and students. Refer to the HR Admin Guide or KCK Principal Handbook Mandatory Training resource page for talking points and guidelines. Be sure to include the following:

  1. Identify who the Title IX Building/Department Coordinator/Investigator is for your building/department.
  2. Remind staff/students that by policy, they are required to report any Sexual Harassment or Race Discrimination incidents they experience, witness, hear about, or receive a report on from a colleague or student.
  3. Remind staff/students the required process is to report incidents of any staff or student misconduct to Building Principal/Department Manager or the Building/Department Title IX Coordinator/Investigator.
  4. If the staff member/student doesn’t feel comfortable reporting to the building, they can contact Human Resources or any of the District Compliance Officers that were listed in the final video.
  5. Staff/students can also use the Bullying/Harassment Report button on the website/student devices to make a report.
  6. Reports go directly to central office leaders.
    Staff/students can also use the district phone line which is 913-627-2550.

Remind staff/students that Board of Education Policies for Sexual Harassment (GAAC/JGEC/AH/KN), Race and Disability Discrimination (GAACA/JGECA; GAAB/JCE), Acceptable Use and Communication Policies (IIBF/GAT), Staff-Student Relationships (GAF) are posted in the school (identify where) for their review.

Remind staff/students of IIBF, which is the Acceptable Use Policy for district technology devices and internet; GAT, which is Staff Use of Communication Devices; and GAF, Staff-Student Relationships.

All communication should be school or instructional related and should never violate student-staff relationship or supervisor-staff relationship policies. At NO TIME, should a staff member EVER TEXT or MESSAGE an INDIVIDUAL STUDENT for ANY reason, even school related. (Licensed Clinical Social Workers are the exception to this rule, per their license and credentials to meet and communicate 1:1 with students.)

Individual messages between supervisors and individual staff members should remain professional, related to school/work and support the development of a positive school or work climate. Supervisors should maintain a professional standard for all communications, at all times.

Building Inventory Reporting

We are asking that all building administration, principals and department leaders engage staff to ensure building inventory lists are submit to Risk Assessment department by January 28, 2022.

EC-5 Canvas Site Training Sign Up

This is for EC-5 schools only. Wendy Elkins has provided multiple sign-up opportunities to come to your school for the entire day and collaborate with teachers and administrators on how to use Canvas. Sign-ups begin on Nov. 2 and run until Dec. 17th. Generally, schools have been using PLCs as the time for Canvas training with outliers dropping in when they have availability. However, if you have a different format in mind, please feel free to set up the time that will work best for your building.

Use this link to schedule your site visit. You will schedule a time using Calendly, and the link is provided below. There are two days per week where the time runs from 8:30-3:30 and two days from 9:00 – 4:00. Please include the name of the school and a contact person. PREP-KC Math Relays Team Sign Up

Hello KCKPS Secondary Math Teams!

We are excited to announce the 12th Annual PREP-KC Regional Math Relays (Virtual for one more year) will be held in January again this year. Teams will be competing on either January 22 or January 29 from 8:45-11:00 and 12:30-2:45.

The Prep-KC is very excited for your students to compete once again!  We know that everyone has had a whirlwind school year so far, and we have made the decision to bring students, teachers and volunteers from all over the city together virtually once again. The only difference this year will be that teams may choose to compete from their own school setting rather than their homes if they choose.   Please note the participation guidelines below:

-Each school can bring up to 16 participants (competing in Individual and Team Events) AND up to 4 participants to compete in the Marathon competition (a $500 scholarship will be awarded to the top winner).

-A Student (if not participating in the marathon) can participate in up to two individual events and one team event.

-Each team in a team event will consist of exactly four students.

-EACH SCHOOL CAN HAVE UP TO 4 TEAMS COMPETE WITH AT LEAST ONE TEAM IN EACH OF THE THREE TEAM EVENTS.

-Photos will be taken and distributed via email and social media.  If you have a student who has not agreed to a photo release in your district, please note that on the enrollment form.

The preliminary enrollment deadline for entries will be Thursday, December 16.  with an opportunity to finalize in mid January. After the deadline, we will once again work with your district’s IT department to ensure students are able to access the required technology mediums.  Please find all of the information you will need in the Math Relays Coaches Folder. All the links were shared via email from the district CANVAS page for Secondary Math teachers by Dr. Parker.

A coaches meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 15 at 3:00 pm or Wednesday, November 17 at 3:30 pm.  Your coach(es) will only need to attend one of the meetings.  Feel free to take a look at the coaches agenda prior to the meeting.

The goal is for each school to have at least one team participate this year. The C&I budget can compensate one coach per building for 10 extra duty hours.  If a building has a full team participating (16-20 students) and is choosing to meet at their own school on competition day, we could compensate an additional coach if needed. In order to get paid, you must complete the GOOGLE FORM for timesheet approval by the Board prior to attending the coaches’ meeting.

2021 DCIP Survey

Before we leave for the holiday, if. we could share with our staff the following DCIP Survey. “Our district has been working diligently in some targeted areas. One of those areas is the social emotional well being of our students. Within this, we’re specifically targeting improving attendance rates overall (>95% attendance rate), decrease chronic absenteeism (<5%), and reduction of referrals and suspensions. We are also focusing on staff wellness and job satisfaction. You will see additional questions focusing on these areas. NEA-KCK and KCKPS are soliciting site-based feedback around these areas in order to better understand the nature of these matters. Thank you for taking time to help share the valuable site-based perspective.

This data is being collected anonymously and will be shared with building administrators, central office administration, and NEA-KCK leadership. The results from this survey will help drive decisions and create programs to help develop supports for staff. The survey will close at 5pm on December 3, 2021.

Admin Placement on Pay Table

HR has established a new process for those administrators who would like HR to review their placement on the new pay tables. With the budget approval this year, we were able to increase our Principal and Asst. Principal pay tables and that step has been completed. However, we have heard from some of you that you would like to have your placement on the table reviewed. Provided below is the process for this to occur.

Placement Review Process:

  1. Log into TalentEd Records
  2. On the right side of the page, click Available Forms
  3. Once you have clicked Available Forms, please click on the Principal & Assistant Principal Resume Upload Document.
  4. Fill out all of the required information. Also, you have the ability to upload a resume or supporting documentation that supports your years of experience
    Please provide this information by December 15, 2021 to be considered for a salary adjustment for the 2021-22 school year.

Infinite Campus Training Week

Infinite Campus’ National Training Week is here and TIS and DERA have collaborated to secure district-wide training for all employees! We highly encourage you and your teams to take part in these live virtual sessions offered directly by our vendor. A large variety of training sessions are offered multiple times throughout this week, please check them out and enroll in the live sessions.

To enroll in and access the training sessions:
1) Log in to Infinite Campus, navigate to Campus Community (looks like a 9-button keypad on the top right corner), this will authenticate you as a KCKPS district employee.
– If you are asked to sign in with a CampusID, go ahead and do so. If you need to create a new Campus ID, please make sure you are using your district email address.
– Authenticating as a district user in Infinite Campus is the only way to access and register for the trainings.
2) Once you are logged in Campus Community you can access the schedule of trainings (https://www.infinitecampus.com/pdf/Training/NTW-2021/NTW-2021-Session-Grid.pdf) this week and enroll in the session by clicking the training title.
– Note, we are not licensed for Workflow or Messenger so disregard those sessions.

American Education Week

American Education Week is November 15-19, 2021

As we kick off the 2021 American Education Week, I wanted to step back and share a little background. The first American Education Week (AEW) was celebrated in 1921. This week is an opportunity to celebrate public education, to inform the community of the accomplishments and needs of public schools, to secure cooperation and support from the public, and to honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education.

One hundred years later and we are still celebrating our ongoing efforts to provide excellence in education, for all of our students, every day, everywhere. I would also like to recognizes all of the work of our AWESOME KCKPS community, both our certified AND classified staff. Our schools and our staff take on an additional roles and significance in our communities, often providing the stability, routine and focus for families affected by current global events, community events, the pandemic and other factors that hammer our community.

Take a moment and reflect on all of the success and accomplishments that each and everyone of us have had in our careers in KCKPS. Remember we are an awesome group of people who have chosen this career and who are here to make a difference. And we do make a difference! THANK you for all you do!

New COVID Vaccine Event – Monday, November 22, 2021

Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools is partnering with the Wyandotte County Health Department and the Patrick Mahomes Foundation (15 and the Mahomies) to host our Squash COVID-19 Vaccine Event on Monday, November 22nd from 4 p.m. to 7p.m. at Carl B. Bruce Middle School.

From vaccines to testing, this event is aimed at keeping you and your loved ones safe, but full this Thanksgiving holiday.

Those getting either the first or second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will receive a free turkey and a meal voucher for the food trucks on-site. Those that are getting their first shot will also get their choice between a $50 gift card or an NFL hoodie.

Individuals that take the COVID-19 test will receive all the traditional Thanksgiving side items, and those who get both a vaccine shot and a test will receive a full Thanksgiving dinner.

In addition, we will have numerous community partners on site, music, and information to help you and your family as we enter into the holiday season.

All food items will be on site. This is only for those wanting the first or second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. No Boosters will be offered. No vaccines for those 5 to 11 years old.

We want to thank all of our community partners who also plan to take part.

Electronic Reporting Forms for Injuries and Incidents

Just a quick reminder that many of the forms you need when it comes to incidents are now electronic.

Student injury forms have now been included to the list.

To make the reporting of workman’s compensation accidents less time consuming, the Supervisors Accident Report is now an electronic form.

Regardless of severity, immediate supervisors & directors are required to report all work-related injuries within 48 hours to Risk Management.

The Incident Report helps document any incident involving non employees.

This includes our students, visitors, parents and guardians.

The incident form is to be filled out for a number of situations including: a child is missing, if a student is injured in a way that could require medical attention in the future, police have to be called during an incident,  there is a fight,  or even to report property damage.

An example of a fight that needs to be recorded- a fight that breaks out that others are around and it may have been recorded. A fight that someone may not realize they are injured immediately but could later on in the day. Fights that do NOT need to be recorded: two kids on the playground hit each other in the arm over a ball.

There may be other incidents that could also require use of this form.

Elementary ELA Cadre Applications

The C&I Department is seeking K-5 Classroom Teachers, SPED Teachers, ESOL Teachers, Reading Interventionists/Specialists, and/or Instructional Coaches to engage in a cadre beginning January 2022 that will revise the elementary ELA GVCs at all grade levels for the 2022-2023 school year.
